Fertilgold® Organics Earns Certification for 10 Initial Organic Fertilizer Products

Fertilgold® Organics, a new brand of organic fertilizer products from Bio Huma Netics, Inc. (BHN) headquartered in Gilbert, Ariz., has achieved Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) listing for 10 initial products. Of these, 6 OMRI-listed liquid crop nutrition products are based on the company’s proprietary nutrient carrier, Micro Carbon Technology®, which carries nutrients to plants more effectively than traditional organic nutrition products. Those 6 initial Fertilgold® Organics liquid products include Fertilgold® K-6 (potassium), Fertilgold® B (boron), Fertilgold® Ca (calcium), Fertilgold® Mg (magnesium), Fertilgold® Micros I (a balanced mix of S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, and Zn), and Fertilgold® Zn (zinc). The other 4 initial OMRI-listed products include dry humic/fulvic acids that are milled to different granular sizes for various uses (Fertilgold® Powder, Fertilgold® Greens, Fertilgold® 1–3 mm, and Fertilgold® 6 mm[-]). The Fertilgold® Organics product line will ultimately feature over 20 products in 7 categories.

PHOS-MAX® y SUPER NITRO® mejoran el rendimiento y la calidad del trigo de primavera

Los objetivos de este estudio fueron: (1) comparar el producto PHOS-MAX® (P-M) con fósforo (P) basado en la Tecnología Micro Carbono® contra fertilizantes de fósforo (P) tradicionales como polifosfato de amonio (APP) y fosfato diamónico (DAP); y (2) comparar el producto SUPER NITRO® (SN) con nitrógeno (N) basado en la Tecnología Micro Carbono® contra el fertilizante de nitrogeno tradicional, UAN.

La aplicación de SUPER NITRO® de Huma Gro® seguido de 30 lb de P2O5 por acre de PHOS-MAX® (Tratamiento N.° 3) contribuyó a obtener récords en términos de peso de granos, biomasa y
rendimiento.

Este estudio también indica que PHOS-MAX® es menos corrosivo y menos propenso a causar daños a las semillas y sugiere que PHOS-MAX® puede aplicarse con la semilla en una dosis mayor comparado con otras fuentes de P.

SUPER PHOS® and SUPER NITRO® Improve Spring Wheat Grain Yield and Quality

The objectives of this study were (1) to compare the Micro Carbon Technology®-based phosphorus (P) product Super Phos® (SP) with traditional phosphorus (P) fertilizers ammonium polyphosphate (APP), and diammonium phosphate (DAP); and (2) to compare the Micro Carbon Technology®-based nitrogen (N) product Super Nitro® (SN) with the traditional nitrogen fertilizer, UAN.

Huma Gro® Super Nitro® followed by 30 lb P2O5 per acre of Super Phos® (Treatment #3) contributed to the highest grain test weights, biomass, and yield.

This study also indicates that Super Phos® is less corrosive and less likely to cause damage to the seeds as a dribble and suggests that Super Phos® could be applied with the seed at a higher rate compared with other P sources.

Huma Gro® Phos-Max® en maíz es 15 veces más efectivo que el fósforo convencional (10-34-0)

Este ensayo de campo evaluó la eficacia del fósforo (P) de Huma Gro® Phos-Max® en el rendimiento del maíz comparado con el estándar 10-34-0.

La aplicación de Phos-Max® de Huma Gro® en 1,225 GPA aumentó el rendimiento unos 99,15 fanegas/acre en comparación con 10-34-0 en 18,38 GPA. Esto demuestra que Phos-Max® es 15 veces más efectivo que 10-34-0 a la hora de proporcionar fósforo al maíz, lo que al precio de venta minorista sugerido por el fabricante al momento del ensayo representaba un 40 % de ahorro en gastos de fertilizante.

Huma Gro® Super Phos® on Corn 15x More Efficient than Conventional Phosphorus (10-34-0)

This field trial assessed the Phosphorus (P) efficacy of Huma Gro® Super Phos® on corn yield in comparison with the standard 10-34-0.

Huma Gro® Super Phos® at 1.225 GPA increased corn yield by 99.15 bu/ac in comparison with 10-34-0 at 18.38 GPA. This demonstrates Super Phos® to be 15 times more efficient than 10-34-0 at delivering phosphorus to corn and, at MSRP at the time of the trial, represented a 40% savings on fertilizer cost.

Achieving higher yield while using much less product (7.62 lb of P2O5 for Super Phos®, vs. 72.6 lb of P2O5 from the 10-34-0)has the added benefit of presenting much less opportunity for phosphorus soil-leaching and runoff into nearby water, thereby protecting the environment. It also facilitates sustainable agriculture through adherence to 4 R Nutrient Stewardship by applying the right source of plant nutrients at the right rate, at the right time, and in the right place.

Ensayo de campo: Promax® controla los nematodos de los setos ornamentales boj inglés

Granja de Investigación Experimental Kentland de Virginia Tech, McCoy, Va.

Este ensayo de dos años tuvo como objetivo evaluar los efectos eliminatorios de PROMAX® y de dos tipos de tratamientos con nematodos beneficiosos (S. feltiae y S. riobrave) en comparación con un control de nematodos parasíticos de plantas (atrofiados, de lanza, anillados y espiral) de los setos ornamentales boj inglés (Buxus sempervirens L. var. suffruticosa).

Los resultados en este ensayo demuestran que la aplicación de un tratamiento con el nematicida PROMAX® redujo los porcentajes de población de los 4 nematodos parasíticos de plantas estudiados a los 7 días y a los 30 días después del tratamiento en el 1er y en el 2do año, y PROMAX® fue más efectivo que los otros 2 tratamientos estudiados para ambos períodos. Esto indica que PROMAX® elimina los nematodos, ya que los mata por contacto.

Es posible que se deban repetir las aplicaciones para lograr la eliminación durante períodos de más de 30 días.

Field Trial: Promax® Controls Nematodes for English Boxwood

Virginia Tech Kentland Experimental Research Farm, McCoy, Va.

This two-year trial aimed to assess the suppression effects of PROMAX® and 2 types of beneficial nematode treatments (S. feltiae and S. riobrave) versus a control on plant-parasitic nematodes (Stunt, Lance, Ring, and Spiral) for English Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens L. var. suffruticosa) ornamental plants.

The results reported in this trial demonstrate that application of 1 treatment of the nematicide PROMAX® reduced population percentages of the 4 plant-parasitic nematodes studied at both 7 days and 30 days post-treatment in years 1 and 2, with PROMAX® being more effective than the other 2 treatments studied for both time periods. This is an indication that PROMAX® suppresses nematodes by killing them on contact.

Repeated applications may be required to achieve suppression for periods longer than 30 days.

BHN Welcomes Jamie Olivarez to the Huma Gro Sales Team

Bio Huma Netics, Inc. (BHN), has selected Jamie Olivarez to be California Sales Agronomist for its Huma Gro® product line. Mr. Olivarez will be based in Sacramento, California, and will be responsible for all Huma Gro® sales and technical support for the Northern California area.

Mr. Olivarez has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from California State University, Chico, along with minor degrees in chemistry and biology. He has worked for several years as a field agronomist, and he has 9 previous years’ experience working in both the public and private sector areas of the biosolids field, including as a regulator for the Washington State Department of Ecology.

4R Plus: Nutrient Management and Conservation for Healthier Soils

By now, most of us in agriculture have been made aware of the “4Rs” Nutrient Stewardship initiative—Right Source, Right Time, Right Rate, and Right Place—developed by The Fertilizer Institute, International Plant Nutrition Institute, Fertilizer Canada, and International Fertilizer Association. The 4Rs program advocates the implementation of best management practices that optimize the efficiency of fertilizer use.

The new 4R Plus initiative adds in soil conservation practices that enhance soil health and improve water quality, with the goal of achieving a more productive crop now and in the future. Strategies advocated include reducing tillage, planting cover crops, and adding structures such as contour strips, grass waterways, and stream buffers or terraces. The goal is to reduce or completely eliminate the negative impacts of fertilizer use associated with nitrogen leaching and phosphorus runoff into lakes, rivers, and watersheds.
